Metabolic has been nominated for the 2017 DAM Prijs sustainability award. This prize is awarded annually to Amsterdam’s most sustainable small and medium-sized enterprises. Having won the district prize for Amsterdam North, Metabolic will now go on to compete with other district winners in the Amsterdam city finals. From 6 to 21 November, you can cast your vote!
This year, 13 companies entered the DAM Prijs competition for Amsterdam North, and the jury was “impressed by the level of sustainable entrepreneurs in the district.” They said they ultimately chose Metabolic to represent the North region in the finals due to the range and impact of our sustainability initiatives across Amsterdam as a whole.
The panel – comprised of representatives from the Amsterdam Climate and Energy Fund, the City of Amsterdam’s Northern District, and last year’s winner, New Electric – saw value in many of Metabolic’s circular economy initiatives, particularly De Ceuvel, the ‘Cleantech Playground’ we helped to build. The Cleantech Playground showcases a new way of thinking about circular urban development, hosting a series of technologies and approaches that demonstrate sustainability in action to thousands of international visitors every year. Our partnership and advisory role to a wide range of organizations across Amsterdam was also seen as a powerful contributor to advancing the city’s broader sustainability and circular economy objectives.
Chris Monaghan, Co-Founder and Innovation Director at Metabolic, said: “We are very honoured to have been nominated for this year’s DAM Prijs. For the past five years we have invested an enormous amount of energy into creating a sustainable circular transition in Amsterdam — from our development work at De Ceuvel and Schoonschip to our work on Buiksloterham and developing new circular tendering tools for the city. We are also stimulating businesses and non-profits here that approach key challenges within our current economy. Amsterdam is at the heart of the transition to the circular economy and we are very proud to be part of this city and its progress.”
On Wednesday 22 November the combined results of a public vote and the jury’s decision will determine the winner of the 2017 DAM Prijs. At the awards ceremony, €4000 prize money will be granted to the city’s winner.
If you believe Metabolic is an inspiring example of sustainable business in an urban context, please vote for us here (until 21 November).
