Case studies
For HEMA, a Dutch retailer with nearly 750 stores, Metabolic mapped scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions in line with the GHG Protocol and CSRD requirements. With this baseline, HEMA established Science Based Targets for carbon reduction. By enhancing data granularity and using the Link nature and biodiversity assessment tool, we provided insights into a wide range of product portfolio impacts beyond carbon. This comprehensive view enables internal stakeholders to make strategic choices on product design and innovation.
Erasmus Medical Center: Pioneering Circular Healthcare by 2050
Metabolic began by mapping the greenhouse gas emissions footprint for Erasmus Medical Center, covering scopes 1, 2, and 3. The focus then shifted to analyzing patient pathways across departments to evaluate the use and disposal of medical products in daily operations. In collaboration with other medical centers, Metabolic developed PROMEZA—a practical tool for measuring material use during medical procedures, enabling informed decisions on procurement and product use.
Climate Transition Plan for a Consumer Goods Company
Metabolic identified key carbon reduction levers for a major consumer goods company and developed a comprehensive roadmap to engage stakeholders effectively. This process supported internal decision-making, leading to the development of an actionable carbon reduction strategy. The selected pathways were quantified and fully integrated into the company’s business and financial planning.
Double Materiality Assessment for Global Food & Beverage Company
Metabolic conducted a CSRD-aligned biodiversity materiality deep dive for a world-leading food company, empowering the company to refine its nature strategy and shape a robust transition plan. Leveraging our data expertise and science-based approach, we quantified impacts, risks, and opportunities across the company’s value chain. By combining impact analysis with financial data, our experts estimated the financial value at risk to support strategic prioritization and decision-making.
Circularity Strategies for Public Services
Metabolic consultants reviewed procurement portfolios across public service organizations to identify key impact hotspots. We helped internal stakeholders set priorities for their circularity strategy. Using tailored ‘R-strategies’ along the value hill, we developed action plans for selected procurement categories, including packaging, catering, office furniture, and textiles.

Team
Testimonial
To set clear priorities and actions for our nature agenda, we needed to go a step further in our double materiality assessment. The Metabolic team performed a robust CSRD-aligned quantitative analysis of our nature-related risks and opportunities. With their expertise, we were able to identify the business value at risk, which is the basis for the actions to be included in our transition plan.
