Rianne joined Metabolic’s Cities & Regions team to support urban areas in the transition to a circular economy. This work encompasses not only sustainable material management and closing material loops, but also the well-being of citizens, community prosperity, climate change mitigation and adaptation, and support of biodiversity.   

While studying urban analysis and (re)design, and working in start-ups, NGOs, and the public sector, Rianne developed an interdisciplinary skillset. (She holds an MSc in Metropolitan Analysis, Design and Engineering from Delft University of Technology and Wageningen University & Research.) Rianne believes we need a broadly shared mindset shift to radically change the way we produce and consume goods — with reducing being the top priority. Simultaneously, we can increase prosperity and equity by creating decent meaningful jobs and reconnecting with our living environments, both socially and ecologically. 

Rianne’s favorite animal is the eel because of its numerous extraordinary characteristics, which she will happily share with you during a coffee break.
