Circular tendering for new social housing projects
Towards circular tendering criteria for housing design and construction
Metabolic and SGS Search developed a set of key performance indicators for housing through a series of workshops.
- Client: Area
- Partners: SGS Search
- Date: November 2017
Dutch housing corporation Area wanted to find ways to include the principles of the circular economy in the design of their new social housing projects, starting with applying the methodology in the towns of Uden and Veghel.
Through a series of workshops by Metabolic and SGS Search the circular vision of Area was translated into a set of circular KPI’s for housing projects, which takes site-specific characteristics and integrality into account. This set of KPI’s will be used in tendering processes for new housing projects to measure the extent to which design proposals of contractors comply with Area’s circular ambitions. The project sought to build circularity principals into Area’s organizational DNA, and help them apply our circular tendering methodology to upcoming housing projects.
The set of KPI’s were developed for tendering processes for six new housing projects to measure the extent to which design proposals of contractors comply with Area’s circular ambitions. The knowledge gained out of this process informed development of our five Circular Tendering Masterclasses.
"It's critical that we maneuver between big visions and idealism, and that is what we can do in a practical and implementable way. These are no longer ideas; we are helping a range of organizations to apply circular tendering tools practically."
